Literacy Services at Parkland College provide learning opportunities for adults wishing to improve living and working conditions through enhanced literacy, math and/or language skills.

Literacy Services can help...

  • By assisting adult learners to improve their reading, writing, spelling, math and English language skills.
  • By assisting learners to develop effective individualized learning strategies.
  • By creating an awareness of the variety of literacy services offered.
  • By providing a broad range of training and support services to volunteer tutors and community agencies.

workshops

A number of literacy workshops offered.

learner support services

Learner support is provided through confidential assessments, individualized learning plans, one to one tutoring and self-paced learning in a computer assisted lab.

tutor support services

Volunteer tutor support provided through training, workshops, tutor support groups, resources and newsletters.

learning labs are at yorkton and fort qu'appelle

These are small group tutorials for upgrading math or English skills. Participants may enroll at any time, and may access up to 6 hours/week of tutorial assistance. Tutorials are supervised by a qualified tutor who keeps track of attendance, provides assistance to participants, marks completed work and oversees the learning program of each individual. An annual registration fee of $35.00 is due each academic year. To enroll in any of these labs, contact Katherine Springford, Literacy Coordinator, at 786-2591 or toll-free at 1-866-783-6766.

one-to-one tutoring

Provides one-to-one tutoring opportunities for adults in the areas of reading,writing, spelling and math.

english as a second language

Provides listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation and vocabulary skills to new immigrants or any Canadian whose first language is not English through classroom instruction and / or one-to-one tutoring.

learning disability assessments

Confidential assessments and individualized learning plans for those with learning difficulties.
