other information

All degree courses offered through Parkland College have exactly the same value as courses offered on-campus. The lab content in the Natural Science courses is also exactly the same.

University professors in Yorkton are subject to the same standards as sessionals on-campus, and are selected by the university's appropriate college or faculty. Although the majority of the courses are offered with the professor in the classroom, the College also participates in innovative distance education delivery systems from both universities.

Classes are usually scheduled to meet once a week, though some meet twice a week and some fort-nightly on Saturdays. Classes may be held during the daytime or in the evening. Multi-mode is one of the distance education systems that are used at Parkland College. Although individual classes vary somewhat, typically the classes are held at the college via an audio-teleconference with the professor. The professor conducts the class at the Yorkton site twice a term. There may be some audio-visual material to be viewed in conjunction with the multi-mode class.

The other modes of delivering classes are via the Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) and the Internet. SCN classes provide a live televised interactive discussion with the professor, a discussion period among students at the receiving site, telephone access to the professor and to students at other sites at no charge and specially developed print packages to guide students through the lectures, assignments and textbooks. Sites that have six or more students will have a locally based tutor or proctor to facilitate discussion and learning. Internet classes are offered from both universities completely online in both synchronous and asynchronous form. Students can access the Net at home or on computers at the College office nearest them.

VERY IMPORTANT: It is the student's responsibility to make final decisions for program direction and classes taken from the information provided to them by Parkland College counsellors.
