what are ged tests?

The GED tests measure the major and lasting knowledge students normally acquire by completing a typical high school program.

Each of the five tests (Language Arts - Writing, Language Arts - Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics) was developed and reviewed by subject experts and test specialists.

The GED Tests are standardized on a regular basis against the results of high school students who are tested in their graduating year.

why should you write the ged tests?

The General Educational Development (GED) Tests offer adults who have not completed high school the opportunity to obtain the equivalent of a Grade 12 standing. The Grade 12 equivalency diploma is a recognized credential that may be your key to employment opportunities, career advancement, further education, and financial rewards.

who is eligible to take the ged tests?

Any person who is:

  • eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • not enrolled in a regular Grade 12 program.

how do you apply to write the ged tests?

You must complete an application form and send it to the GED office at Advanced Education and Employment for approval.

Application forms are available from:

  • the Advanced Education and employment web site: www.aee.gov.sk.ca/ged/ or:
  • the GED office; or
  • registration offices of Parkland College; or
  • Canada-Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services centres.

what are the costs?

To write the GED Tests a non-refundable registration fee of $35 must accompany your application. This fee entitles you to write the five tests, receive two (2) official transcripts, and receive your official GED grade 12 equivalency diploma.

Send your completed application form and registration fee to the GED office at:

Programs Branch

how can you prepare for the ged tests?

Skills acquired through work, training, reading, and other life experiences may have prepared you to write the GED Tests.

For additional preparation you can:

  • purchase a GED study guide from a local bookstore or Parkland College
  • contact Parkland College for advice on materials and details about GED and GED preparation courses that are available.

Taking a "prep" course or using a study guide or other materials will help to refresh your knowledge and skills and will help build your confidence in taking timed tests.
