Date set for Trades and Technology Centre sod-turning

April 29th, 2014

The wheels are in motion on the Trades and Technology Centre in Yorkton. On Mar. 27 Logan Stevens Construction (2000) Ltd. was awarded the contract to build the new facility.  And now, Parkland College is ready to take the next step.

An official sod-turning ceremony is scheduled for May 6 at 9:30 a.m. It will happen at the Trades and Technology Centre site along Dracup Ave. North, just south of Logan Stevens’ York Road headquarters.

The event will include Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris, Deputy Premier/Finance Minister Ken Krawetz, Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit, and Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney. Donors and campaign supporters have been invited to help celebrate this milestone in the facility’s long journey from concept to reality.

The Trades and Technology Centre is scheduled to open in September 2015.  The new facility will house training space and classrooms that will allow Parkland College to produce more than 350 skilled graduates per year, and also upgrade the skills of 2,000 workers annually. Key programs will include Power Engineering, Welding, and Heavy Duty Mechanics.

This project represents a significant expansion of services and program delivery options that are not currently available in the Parkland region. Investments in the project will provide the necessary resources to sustain economic, social, and cultural growth in the region and across Saskatchewan.
