A collaborative effort

October 5th, 2015

Last week, I had the pleasure of taking part in my first Board/Staff Workshop and Service Recognition Awards at Parkland College. We were able to recognize the contributions of 17 employees with a range of experience from 5 to 25 years. Individuals from all areas of College operations were honoured for their work and dedication to the College.  It is clear that our people are deeply committed to Parkland College and the work we do for our students.

We also had the pleasure of listening to Patricia Katz’s wonderful keynote address that focused on showing appreciation and challenged us to approach the future with a flexible and open mind. Her personal examples connected with many while she used humour and real life experience for emphasis. Her encouraging and positive approach to many of the challenges we face as individuals in our daily work at the College was uplifting and refreshing. I left the day feeling very fulfilled and confident that Parkland College was well equipped for a bright future.

I also left the day knowing that Parkland College must build on the strengths and attributes each individual staff member brings to his or her work through collaboration. When we combine the efforts of many talented and dedicated staff and commit to collaboration, we increase our strengths many times over. We will continue to build and develop Parkland College through individual effort and a collective commitment to work collaboratively.
