Education

Agriculture Degree or Diploma student or graduate

  • Appropriate provincial drivers license (or ability to obtain one) to operate farm trucks and equipment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills>
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good understanding of agronomic practices
  • Basic mechanical skills; ability to operate farm machinery

Description

Monsanto Canada has several openings for Summer Research Assistants in our Canola Testing Operations group located in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. The terms of these positions may vary slightly based on environmental conditions and availability of candidates. However, the terms will start in April/May and end between August and October. This is an ideal opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in agriculture to experience working with world class researchers, agronomists and plant breeders in a leading agricultural company.

Duties and Responsibilities

Summer Technical Assistants are responsible for the following activities:

  • Assisting with seed and trial preparations activities including seed counting, sorting, placement of sample envelopes into planting order and order verification
  • Assisting with effective planting and plot maintenance activities
  • Assisting with the collection of agronomic data from canola plots and nurseries throughout the season
  • Following ESH policies and procedures for the safe operation of the local research facility and program
  • Operating and maintaining plot equipment and vehicles including trucks and trailers
  • Supervising and working with temporary and casual field laborers
  • Assisting with tours of field sites and / or research facilities
